After 4pm trade is called "match-out". THe computers basically go hard at it for 10 minutes completing orders. You can actually still place new orders even up to ten past 4.
Also the computers "matchout" and workout which shares need to be sold/transferred due to options/derivative positions etc etc. This usually can go on until 4:20-4:30pm.
