That's a really good question about where the shares come from.
Unfortunately since the US listing, AMEUF, isn't traded through the established clearinghouse (DTC), the number of AMEUF shares held at the DTC isn't provided on the OTC markets website (AMEUF is traded over the counter). The site does list the number of outstanding shares as 1.2 million but the date for that number is December 2013 so I'm not sure if that is the total of US shares or not. The regulations for foreign companies to uplist require at least 1 million shares to begin trading and the facility to bring another 500,000 online.
Another question would be about liquidity flowing from the ASX to the Nasdaq once an uplist happens because it seems like a lower float in the US could cause a price spike if volume really intensified. That's a big "if" however, because AMEUF is a long, long way from that kind of volume. Only 200 shares have been traded since Oct 14.
