I think you're quite right. I've always thought that the majority of retail holders, most of whom own relatively few shares, never take the time to read announcements and therefore have only scant knowledge of exactly what their company is doing at any given time. It's like the day trading fraternity. Most of them don't take the time to study the fine detail in announcements or research a company properly. They just read a headline and the dot points on the first page of an announcement and if it sounds exciting they plow in figuring they'll be back out before lunch.
