BESS at grid scale has been growing rapidly in response to cheaper input prices. Regrettably, household batteries of circa 10KWH, which were on a gently declining trend in price pre-Covid, stopped falling and in fact some prices have increased recently. So until their prices fall in response to lower Lithium and other input costs, they continue to have a payback of more than ten years or longer than the life of the battery which means that without subsidies they unfortunately remain uneconomic.
