Sodium batter is not just solely developed from China, also South Korea. LGES already has R&D on sodium and they have prototype which is half drive range compare to CATL one. Unfortunately, Sodium is way cheaper and is viable project, not just on ESS, maybe some small short range (Commuting purpose) EV. Developing technology is the key on Sodium and Li. Solid state battery also will be game changer, but the price is much higher than sodium, even much expensive than LFP or NMC. Companies always find a way to make production with cheaper budget historically. Lithium already take great position in battery world for sure, but sodium also will take portion on various section, even EV I guess. I was quite shocked even LGES already get into sodium battery developing. Also, I just read Samsung SDI & Ecopro also involve developing Sodium battery for their next generation battery. LGES is focused on Sodium battery for mass production until 2030 before they put any other batteries on market, according to article from NGBS 2025, LGES presentation. Chinese government also announced their battery safety regulation which is 3 main safety regulation. This compulsory regulation will adapt all new EV produced from China from July 2026, The regulation is 1. No fire from battery no matter what caused from 2. Impact test 3. Fast charging test (Battery now allow any fire or explosion by 300 times continuous fast charging). This regulation called 'GB38031-2025'. CATL mentioned they already tested based on new regulation and it passed from their own test. I dont know what this bring in the future. But, it doesnt really good on Li world. Maybe this reason why all Li companies are getting down the deep. All the best.
