Yeah it happened with AGY with Tyson and his hyping social media campaigning right before the huge pump and dump. At the time he was holding conferences (and charging people) on the Gold Coast and telling everyone how AGY was going to $1 back in 2017 haha.
He dumped at just under $0.50 as he knew they wouldn't be worth any more than that at. From memory I think he said his average was $0.03c, going back a while now though.
So yeah those characters are very real and do hype hard just to make a quick buck off their followers.
