There is an advanced plan to extend Route 167 north to the Trans-Taiga highway, and this is about 125km in total. It passes by Adina.

However to extend Route 167 (currently terminating at the diamond mine) to Adina is more like 50-60km.

The project is really about helping the Cree. The extension of Route 167 will connect the two most populous areas of the territory. It will also provide jobs to build the road, and now additionally there is the prospect of further jobs in mining and mine development.

You may have noticed Canadian governments are sensitive and responsive to the needs of First Nations communities.

Canada has also recently set up a 1.5bn CAD infrastructure fund to assist development of their critical minerals supply chain precisely for projects like this.

Canadian govts have done deals / provided subsidies to strategics who are setting up their downstream plants further south. If they needed to access spod from the Adina area they would also want this road built.
