@scott you'd remember when Australia had national service.

if the date of your birthday as a 20 year old was pulled from a barrel in the twice yearly draw, you would be drafted into the army for two years, or spend a couple of years in the clink if you were a conscientious objector.

during those two years in the army, your unit could be posted to Vietnam, where you could participate in the genocide of Vietnamese people and the destruction of the country.

about one quarter of the 516 Australians who died in Vietnam were national servicemen.

national service in Australia was a national disgrace. The utter hypocrisy of it heightened by the fact that as a 20 year old, you weren't entitled to vote for the govt that ordered you to participate in a genocide of people who had never threatened Australia.

world champion heavyweight and conscientious objector Muhammed Ali, who was incarcerated in the US because of it, summed it up thusly: 'no Vietnamese ever called me nigga.'

that was a couple of generations ago.

do you think after practicing genocide and nation wrecking at various times since, conservatives are any better now, or have learnt anything.

of course not. Successive Australian govts have consigned the ADF to be little more than support to fading empires through AUKUS.

conservative leaders in the AUKUS like Rishi Sunak only punch down.
