I always thought the use of non ambulatory cases was the wrong end of the spectrum. By the time they are not walking the muscles are stuffed, lots of fat and fibrous tissue.
It would require a miracle to fix that or even make small useful changes.
The trial that would have a better chance would be the maintenance of ambulation.
Lazarus required now.
