Let me make a point which i think you know. Highly liquid stocks are typically not the ones shorted. The ideal target is one where gaps appear.
A second criteria relevant to spoofing is the expectation of news soon.

I have been getting data direct from ASIC. FNArena had errors even though they were getting it from ASIC. I told them but i don't know if they fixed the problem yet.

What is interesting is the sample chosen. Pairs are matched by capitalisation. What is wrong with that is it should be RANKED by capitalisation to bring out the difference in opportunity for shorting. Shorters go to where the opportunity is best, not so much high liquidity stocks. You can scratch that study. Nice stats, poor understanding of market by capitalisation in relation to shorting.
All transactions are reported not all net positions need to be reported.
All i can say is look at the course of sales on a severe down day, and take the ASIC report, and multiply the % by free float * price and compare it to the volume traded.

i don't know who you have in mind by challenging "WE....going to suppress the stock...really".

Average value of daily trades December to date $3,877m.
The short POSITIONS can be close to half the daily average.

So i contest the proposition that shorting is no big deal. It is a continuing drag for as long as there a gaps in the market to be exploited.
Probably anyone outside 200-250. I think someone said that or similar.
