One may indeed suspect that Fort Knox is bare, and as Goldfinger states, this has been "suspected" for quite a while. Although I cannot, currently, supply evidence, from memory the last public audit, or disclosure, of Ft Knox occurred in 1954. So for 70 years the full "faith and confidence of the US government" has, at least in part been backed by their 8000 odd tons of gold which we must believe is actually there.
In a sane world, why would anyone believe that the world's largest debtor nation,which continues to fund war after war by printing money,with no end in sight for this profligacy has anything like the stored gold which they claim to have?
