Leo, have you ever visited a battery hen operation? If not, try and visit one and see how much of what you posted correlates with what you see. Animals under stress simply do not produce. I think the emotions many people consider that animals are feeling are based on how they themselves would feel in such circumstances which really is not relevant. Nobody knows animals are actually thinking, the only guide you have is if the animal is healthy, not in obvious stress, and as in the case of hens, producing eggs daily, then all is probably well.
