If i manage to get any it will be for the coal not the gold or copper. China is now a net importer of coal, and actually consumes coal at 3x the rate of the USA. China consumes about two thirds of Australia's entire coal export tonnage.
That will only grow with increasing urbanisation. They need to generate more electricity. Mongolia can supply this shortfall at cheap rates = low transport cost and because the fields are under-developed or not even explored the coal is closer to the surface and easy + cheap to get to.
