There are simple solutions to the micro party vote harvesting phenomenon that retain preferential voting.
That said, Xenophon is not one of those anymore - he used the technique in SA state politics early days (1997) to win an upper house seat with 2.9% of the vote. That of course didn't bother him when he bitched about losing a second seat in the last election to one of the micro parties.
