Wouldn't say Oracle are without an accounting presence as they have owned NetSuite since 2016 which is used by many medium & large businesses.
Interestingly Microsoft discontinued their product Microsoft Office Accounting in 2009 without replacing it. Would Microsoft want Xero for a cross-sell opportunity? Microsoft Office 365 already supports integration with Xero so perhaps if Microsoft saw a large uptake of users choosing Xero, they might wish to own it. Certainly not going to sell a significant number of Office 365 subscriptions to current Xero users, when I assume many already use Office.
