Minim-Martap Bauxite: Canyon Resources hires Vecturis to evaluate railway infrastructureFollowing the compilation of comprehensive rail traffic data, Vecturis developed a static traffic capacity model, followed by a dynamic simulation model using specialized railway modeling software.
As part of the Banking Feasibility Study, the Australian company Canyon Resources, in a statement published on December 8, 2021, announces that it has hired Vecturis, a railway engineering consultant based in West Africa. This, to assess Cameroon's railway infrastructure and determine the necessary upgrades and the respective costs. It was also a question of "assessing rolling stock needs, modelling rail traffic capacity and, ultimately, ensuring optimized operation of the schedule," said the Canyon Resources statement. It goes without saying that the railway's traffic capacity determines the throughput of the Minim Martap project.

It is in this sense that following the compilation of complete data on Cameroonian rail traffic, Vecturis has developed a static traffic capacity model, followed by a dynamic simulation model using specialized railway modeling software, thus targeting 5 million tons of bauxite per year. Regarding the dynamic simulation model Vecturis concluded that "rail traffic capacity is significantly better than previously expected. As a as a debit, the project's throughput has increased by more than 20%. An improvement over the project's pre-studyability (PFS) assumptions," says Vecturis.

In addition to railway studies, a review of railway operating methodology, with the support of the Ministry of Transport and Cameroon Railway (Camrail), has identified other opportunities to increase tonnage and improve rail efficiency. In addition, ongoing negotiations with the Douala Port Authority (PAD) and Camrail have identified an alternative solution for rail unloading and barge loading at the port of Douala that will facilitate operations and easily take into account future increases in production. Along with the railway studies, China Minmetals Corporation 'S(MCC) subsidiary Zhongye Changtian International Engineering Co., Ltd. (MCC CIE) has developed the operating schedule, transport route, inland railway facility (IRF) and port designs," Canyon Resources said.
