    Another thing to take into consideration @kacy is that factset's sample space is very limited.
    Its only the SP500. Even then its a "blended number" made up of some actuals and estimates.
    A lot of good results have come in late in the reporting period, particularly the July Reporters.
    This is why even factset kept revising their numbers.

    My numbers are all real, and up to date to 31-August.
    Furthermore, my numbers are for the top 1200 companies a much deeper sample of US corporates.

    Also bear in mind that only 1% of US corporations are publicly traded (although they probably contribute maybe 20% of corporate profits)
    Most corporates in US (and elsewhere) are privately held.

    Consider also that the something like 30% of SP500 revenues are derived from outside the US and therefore had a strong currency translation headwind (due to the strong US dollar). This factor would have been much less prevalent in the smaller non-multinational corporates.

    Long story short.
