Im guessing you live and work from a metropolitan inner city area? Nothing there will ever indicate people are struggling. Live and work more out on the fringes where people are not professionals or tradies, and you'll get a different picture.

Minimum wages is $24.10 hr, or $915 pw. I cannot find figure from ABS that give a complete breakdown of what people in different age brackets and sector earn both as full time and part time. Yuo would need to see that to calculate how many haves and have-nots there are. Also factor in the net income of the 17,000 multi millionaires in Australia.which perhaps could be skewing the average a little.

The 2021 Census reported people 15 yrs andr older have $805 pw.(nett presumed) each to live on . That has to pay for the upkeep of children for those who have them.
