When I look at the mid-east today it is unrecognisable in many ways ?
Some years ago I was speaking to a person who had worked in Saudi & he told me the story of his family being asked to be "quiet" by the religous police for laughing in a shopping centre. Since MBS has taken power the religous police have been discarded & women can drive! Plans to open the first alcohol outlet in Riaydh (for non muslim deplomats).
Until a few years ago El Al (the Israeli National airline) was unable to overfly parts of Saudi, but now able to, on direct flights from Israel to the UAE.
I think after the death in custody of Mahsa Amini for not wearing a Hijab properly & the subsequent mass protests, the regime in Tehran is not so popular especially among the Uni students, who only a few decades were famous for taking over the US embassy! Many Iranian friends saying you need a masters degree now to get even a crappy job.
I think the attack on Israel on Oct 7 by Hamas was an attempt to stop the diplomatic recognition of Israel by Saudi Arabia.
The vastly disproportionate response by Israel must be condemned in the strongest terms for taking the lives over 50,000 civilians & making Gaza look like parts of Syria & Chechnya (ie: the scorched earth military policy).
Unlike the Bears I dont see a major war (like Iran-Iraq war in the 1980's) breaking out as many mid east countries still on a quest to become the next UAE ?
