I think we might have actually figured it out here on some dinky ASX trading forum.

1. USA bans/regulates non-US backed cryptocurrency on a weekend/holiday/in the AM, $BTC immediately goes to sub $1000.

2. That would liquidate 90%+ of "crypto investors" in one hit, most of which while totally unaware.

3. No matter what time of day, VIX / VX future spike to like 100+

4. US markets sell off on open.

So while focusing on all of this other stuff, it's always the thing that no one expects.
