My strategy is to pick a stock I like based on fundamentals, check the chart for strong support lines and then set a buy price just above it with a long enough time frame for it to be hit. Then I walk away. It worked recently for ALK where I set a buy price at 77 when it was trading in the low 90's. It didn't work for WAF recently. Occasionally I get undisciplined and increase my bid but it is surprising how often the original price gets hit.
I haven't been doing this for very long, literally the last six months only.
My selling strategy is less disciplined. If a stock has had a big run I'll sell and wait for a pullback.
