JGunter, I was in despair skipping over all these pop music posts...when I came across your Beethoven Nineth and my faith in humanity instantly returned!

I was also jealous of you having actually been to a live performance.

Beethoven's Nineth, for me, is the greatest single piece of classical music by any composer in the history of civilization --- not that there are many other worthy contendors.

What Shakespeare is to literature, Beethoven is to music.

I play it constantly during my trading.

Skip to the 4th movement, you say?

No way....you have to start the journey at the beginning, with the "orchestra tuning up-like" first few bars, through the repeating ranges of the meoldy in the first movement......

...to the equally melodic allegro second movement...

to the soulful despair of the andante third (in my younger years after a stressful day's work I would come home, lie prostrate on the floor and listen to the third movement to calm me)....

and then, the climacting choral of the fouth.

On Youtube, there is a performance I'm sure you would like, in Japan, by TEN THOUSAND Japanese in the choir, singing it fluently in its native German. Breathtaking.

    As you were all :)
