It occurred to me this morning that Australian equities are in a difficult space
On the one side we have yield stocks - against rising bond yields (be that temporary or not) and on the other we have miners (which are facing their own headwinds from Chinese sentiment)
The bright spot is foreign earners but I don't feel they make up a bi enough weight in the index to make a real difference.
Net net, IMO, the issue is rising real interest rates. That is poor for commodities and if yield is now available in the former safe havens then it is poor for yield proxies. Australia is a highly leveraged economy. We need to start treading very cautiously
