Volt, my biggest problem with the 1975 to now chart is that the All Ords or XJO (even more so) are a collection of winners. Those companies that have failed just disappear from the index and in the case of the XJO, the unsuccessful get replaced by the successful ( on a quarterly basis).
If you redo the chart but account for the financial losses of the losers then I bet we are vastly closer to if not below the trendline.
