i am guessing your dohicky thing is something like an adaptive model based on dominant components. would love to know more if it is not a trade secret.

if so are the parameters manualy determined or automatically fitted?

assuming it works well i would still expect there to be a lag/transient response as the model locks on to the new set of parameters.trending up/down, ranging, breakout...
