Good analogy Mo ' .It's not my bag so I don't rely on it ,but I always have a look before I do anything ,although as you know if you're only looking for confirmation you'll usually find it I guess . My go is to find things and get in on the ground floor so the chart doesn't mean all that much to me till I'm thinking it may be time to sell.

I always remember as a young man sitting in on a strategy meeting about how we were going to run a small stock from nowhere up a lot higher .A young broker with spectacles looked up from his analysis and said that the chart looked like crap , he couldn't see it going anywhere on the technicals .The guy running the show looked at him with a benevolent smile and said ,well that's the least of our problems ,we can make the chart look a whole lot better whenever we feel like it . That did teach me that following the money is often as good a strategy as any
