To understand where voltaire is coming from one needs to be aware that his family has had a strong connection with the ALP, with Voltaire .. being an ALP member of the NSW Parliament pre WW2.

I have come across some very intelligent people who see the faults in the ALP but are so emotionally involved with the ALP idea that they cannot bring themselves to vote against them even if they can acknowledge their deficiencies. It is a bit like the partner of a criminal who forgives her/his partner no matter what crimes they commit.

I was once a committed ALP supporter from the age of 16, but saw the light at age of 30, when I finally voted for them only to help get rid of Fraser. After that I always voted Liberal as being the lesser evil until 2007 when I decided that Howard was a nut job. I did not expect things to be better under Rudd, I just wanted Howard's mismanagement and lies to go away. I do not think Abbott or the Libs have much of an idea about anything, but they may prove to be less destructive than the ALP/Greens.

We get the politician we deserve, because we allow these people to lie to us and then vote for them in the vain hope of getting a good outcome.

Maybe the ASX will go up as a result of a change of government, but for the most part this is driven by forces outside of the control of our government, at least in the short term.

    loki
