lokaull
a few people correctly called for a top. no big deal, that falls into the mappable category, like knowing that if we stay awake for too long, eventually we fall asleep.
but very few, other than the hypochondriac analysts, would have pegged it as the trigger for a major viral infection requiring one arm and one leg each to be amputated.
our own beloved marty, who has recently succumbed to believing his own publicity, only called for a 1000pt drop at the time, and that was after it had already risen about 2000pts from his first call.
no, the general vibe in 05/06 that i remember was very optimistic, hence the ease with which we all succumbed to the illusion that we could all have infinite credit. those who were weary of complex derivatives thought that they could only burn those who played with them. and we here in australia believed that our much needed mineral wealth would protect us from all foreign harm.
also, the single clearest social indicator of impending disaster is still in "underbought" territory (ie cocaine abuse).
until we start seeing kids tv show presenters with collapsed nasal septums i think we have nothing to worry about.
