With Avago taking over Broadcom via a $37 billion deal last year (however keeping the Broadcom name) they will be able to compete with the likes of Intel, Samsung & Qualcomm.

These guys are where my money is for the second chip manufacture, and what a partner they will be.

All About WICED Meet WICED, Wireless Internet Connectivity for Embedded Devices.

Interoperability is critical to the proliferation of the Internet of Things, which is why the WICED (pronounced “wik-id”) platform is bringing secure Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) wireless connectivity to nearly every emerging product category in the Internet of Things ecosystem, including home appliances, health and fitness monitors, automation and asset tracking systems, smart meters and an array of consumer electronics devices.

The WICED portfolio of development systems enables Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and BLE connectivity for:
    • Home appliances
    • Home monitoring and control
    • Health and fitness
    • Automation and logistics
    • Digital cameras and imaging
    • Smart meters and energy management
    • "Headless" devices without a means of interactive configuration for connectivity
    • PAN-LAN bridge and cloud applications
    • Consumer Electronics
And what did Xped announce that they require from their MoU announcement with the first chip manufacturer?

"Focus will be to expand and enhance Xped’s current and future needs for wireless
connectivity products and solutions such as NFC, SubGhz radio transceivers, security engine and sensors"

    Bingo.

Also Broadcom are also active in the data centers space, similar to Xped's pending deal with Vital Xense: http://www.********/investing/gener...avago-technologies-ltd-broadcom-ltd-stoc.aspx

    3. Inorganic enterprise growth
Back in 2013, Avago expanded into the data center market by acquiring disk controller company LSI for $6.6 billion. It subsequently acquired PCI Express chip and switch maker PLX Technology and Fibre Channel and Ethernet adapter cards maker Emulex. During the fourth quarter, that diverse portfolio of data center solutions boosted its enterprise storage revenue 38% annually and accounted for 35% of Avago's top line.

By merging with Broadcom, Avago gains the company's Trident and Dune Ethernet switch chips, which control a dominant share of the data center switch chip market. After Broadcom's operations become fully integrated with Avago's in the second quarter, the combined company's enterprise storage business will likely continue posting double-digit growth.
