Those of us that like to invest in businesses that have strong and independent cultures, that are not run by aggressive, short term KPI tickers, will tend to have a nuanced approach to this. The companies that tend to build enduring value, I would suggest, tend not to be too eager with the hatchet.
Ironically, it is often those that are most eager to "please" shareholders, that are most willing to sacrifice the foot soldiers, all the while pocketing hefty pay packets, options and bonuses for themselves. These are the guys that tend to run businesses for the benefit of employees, they are just rather selective on exactly which employees they are running it for.
