The ATO would be more likely to act if they thought there was revenue to be had.

Should be fairly easy to establish the buyers and sellers if as I think there is a dearth of small holder transactions, and many of the reasons that are used to back stop the reasons to allow short selling and high speed trading would evaporate if the bulk of transactions are among related parties or parties that then return the favour. Would be a pretty clear cut case of washing if that could be established.. Enter the ATO

Of course if small holders are being forced to sell into the falling price my argument goes out the window. but then it was only ever a rant. Nothing more or less
