We have the interesting 'YAL v WHC' thread.

It was suggested one comparing YAL with NHC commence, so here goes...

I'll start the ball rolling by suggesting NHC has excellent 'supervision' from much liked Mr Robert Millner, who loves chairing effective companies.

NHC also has a new MD IIRC with a good record, and productive assets such as Bengalla Mine in the NSW Hunter Valley. Despite a long gestation, New Acland Stage 3 at Oakey, Queensland "may" be about to jump the final hurdle before it can (re)commence mining thermal coal. NHC certainly believes so.

YAL by comparison produces a much larger quantity per annum. Its mainland Chinese majority ownership is seen as a worry and unpredictable, especially if it carries through with its apparent desire to branch out from thermal coal mining to other activities. Will it stick to its knitting, and will some mainland Chinese holders sell down further?

For the record, I have far more YAL than NHC. I also hold WHC (of which I sold a third this week, but bought back in to a smaller extent when the price dropped). Additionally, I have rail operator AZJ that is in the process of divesting (whether by trade sale or demerger/float) East Coast Rail.

Given the two companies SPs are similar, which do you believe has the better prospects?

Is one likely to be more hard hit than the other from any taxes imposed by the Federal Labor Government?

Is YAL more affected by excess rain when that occurs in the NSW Hunter Valley?

Both companies are paying splendid dividends with which we ought be pleased. Great earnings await us in 2023 it would appear.
