'Hope not' doesn't really fit here, because the history of mining in PNG is not exactly reassuring, I'm afraid. I have no knowledge of the ethnic group(s) involved here, but I do hope the CEO gets on top of this issue quickly, because the only way to keep the locals on side is to spend a lot of time showing them how they will be better off, etc.
The Cargo Cult mentality will be a big factor, I suspect, and in the end money will have to be seen to flow - along with jobs.....
