    What a load of rubbish. Most shares are held as part of the capital of the company who issued them, not with a long and short side (unless you think that a company that issues shares is short its own shares which is not the case because the shareholders are the company). Certainly all shares I hold in companies there is no short side to the transaction.

    If I sell these shares tomorrow and the new owner gains on them because the price increases, I'm not losing anything due to them gaining and nor is anyone else.
