The chairman of the board of the collapsed Tasmanian timber company Gunns has left the position, along with two other directors.

The stock exchange has been told about the departure of Christopher Newman last week.

Mr Newman was appointed chairman in 2010 and has been a director since 2001.

Former managing director Greg L'Estrange and director Richard Millar have also left.

Gunns went into voluntary administration in September, owing banks more than $500 million.

The next creditors meeting will be held at the end of January.
