I favour a sturdy gentleman's cane with a fist size handpiece because it doubles as a legal (defensive) weapon for old men and the cops can taser you for possession in a public place. Also handy for clearing the way of Bogans and assorted miscreants from one's path - damn peasants! .
Note: Up until the mid 17 hundreds a chap required a license to carry a walking stick, given their perceived lethality; only issued to gentlemen of worth and good character of course. Today, one can access any number of YouTube video's on how to use ones walking aid as a deadly weapon.
