I apologise if my comments came across as "religion " being the reason why people can't think for themselves.
The brother principal at my high school told me at the end of year 12 that I should never stop asking ' Why '!
Religion is as much a journey as a set of rules.
He knew my beliefs didn't /wouldn't match his.
He selected a small group of year 12's for religious studies to help out the main RE teacher, he picked the obvious brain dead and the few who would cause the other teacher problems by picking holes in everything she said ( or at least trying too).
At the end of the year he dragged 3 of us aside and thanked us for engaging him in debate of his beliefs and ours.
That's one of the reasons I distrust people's comments when they say, it's in the book written from god.
I don't think that they're not able to think for themselves but they shouldn't just accept everything that they read or are told from the pulpit.
