The Christian God may forgive those that engage in homosexual acts but civil institutions administering Mosaic law are not afforded the same discretion. The punishment, communicated from God via Joshua to the Israelites, is clear and unequivocal - death! (burned to death or stoned to death, can't remember which).
As you say, the death penalty also applies to other moral crimes, including for example - eating a cheeseburger, making love to your wife while she is menstrating, and (if you are a virgin lady engaged to a man) being raped (death for the lady who was raped not the rapist!)
