Well, when millions of people and entire religions are based on that book being the perfect word of the infallible god, you can see why some people get 'hung up' on the wording.
They have solidified my belief that if there is a god then trying to be a good person and helping others is all I need to do!
I appreciate that you seem to have sincere desire to use your spirituality to help you do better, but if you are only being nice for dear of an omnipresent god then I think that your not as nice as you could be.
