I don't know if that was a reference to the German rocket scientist of V1 and V2 fame who was pinched by the Yanks in 1945 or Alfred Werner who got a Nobel Prize in 1913 for his work on coordination compounds.
I attended a lecture about 50 years ago on a Copper Complex (Werner type) and when I joined Hot-Copper if just came into mind so I used it as a pseudonym. I am not really complex nor a rocket scientist but I did design and test the first ICI Marine Seismex used in the North Sea exploration about 45 years ago.
