cuyp - I'd suggest the "independent experts" providing their Report on this transaction have to be guided by what the consensus view on the AUD gold price is likely to be.

That view, across a wide range of supposedly informed opinion, is that the gold price in a year or two won't be as high as it is now (though broker firms seem to edge up their near-term gold forecasts pretty regularly these days).

Some HotCopper posters, though, have a very different view and consider gold prices will remain elevated (ie stronger for longer).

I guess the "independent experts", and the Board itself, are taking the consensus view on the gold price rather than the views of a handful or so of HotCopper posters. You can't blame them for doing that.
