    The UN has no “formal definition” of who is indigenous but simply a ‘working definition’ with a few simple guideline of the attributes that they think is appropriate.

    So they basically left it to a nation to draw up definition who should be classed as indigenous!

    It then depends on the pressure group and wimps in government who come up with a definition.

    Prior to sometime in 1970’s, NZ had a policy that to be classified as being indigenous u had to prove that ur bloodline was 50% and over.
    ‘There was a big uproar because many people who claimed being Māori didn’t qualify under this criteria.

    It not like the people of nation were allowed to determine who should officially classed as being indigenous.

    This weak definition, and the likely benefits that will flow thru the Voice is what I believe is the reasoning for the large uptick in people claiming being indigenous.
