I would not be at all surprised to see deliberate death by starvation.
A mate of mine was involved in the practice of starvation of babies to cause death- in Scotland I think.
it was common practice with children born with disabilities- instead of giving the poor things a solid shot of something like heroin or an OD of morphine- they would just not feed them
they would dehydrate , their tongue would swell and they died from asphyxiation
This meant that god took them, as opposed to someone killing them with an injection.
I would not be surprised at all if that wasn’t some sort of continuation of some historical precedent
