Mount Bevan comes up trumps: Hawthorn

    Tuesday, 16 June 2009

JUNIOR explorer Hawthorn Resources says new results from its ongoing drilling program at the Mount Bevan iron ore project, in Western Australia, have extended the orebody, making it the largest haematite mineralised body identified in the Central Yilgarn area.

Jupiter Mines' Central Yilgarn iron ore projects
The project is 100 kilometres west of Leonora, extending northwards along strike from Jupiter Mines Mount Mason iron ore resource of 5.75 million tonnes at 59.9% iron ore.

Results from angled holes drilled at Mount Bevan include 28m at 57.9% iron ore from 78m and 6m at 57.2% iron ore from 112m. In another hole, results include 12m at 57.1% iron ore from 84m.

The Melbourne-based company said 22 holes were drilled for 1945m during the RC drill program, completed last month.

Further holes were drilled along the northern strike extension within Hawthorn's tenement of the Mount Mason orebody intersecting an interpreted extension of the mineralised body about 120m along strike.

According to the company, attempts to further intersect the interpreted strike of the mineralised zone were hampered by drill access and ground condition issues.

During the current program a newly identified horizon of sub-outcropping haematite mineralisation was also drill tested.

The company reported the drillholes indicated at least two sub-parallel horizons of mineralisation were associated with this newly identified zone.

Hawthorn is encouraged by the results and said these demonstrated the continuity of the known Mount Mason orebody into Hawthorn's tenement package.

The discovery of new zones of haematite mineralisation close to Mount Mason suggests the potential of the remainder of the Mount Bevan tenement to host haematite orebodies that are undiscovered.

Future exploration will focus on expanding the newly identified haematite mineralised zones, close to Mount Mason.
