    Don't know about Reid Bryson being the 'father of modern climatology'. If he was, much thanks to him. We would be in worse straits if not for modern climatology.

    I don't know a huge amount about the detail of Bryson's work. I understand that in his latter years he was sceptical of global warming, to what extent I don't know. I can't imagine that anyone working in the field is not aware of how greenhouse gases work, so he might have merely been wishfully thinking that it won't get all that bad.

    He was also one of the very few people who speculated in the 1970s that the earth might be approaching an ice age, while most other people working on climate science were investigating how much warmer the earth will get as a result of adding greenhouse gases to the atmosphere. (Deniers often quote the 'ice-age' speculation in the 1970s as 'proof' that climate science is flawed. Yes, some of them really feel they have to go to such silly lengths.)
