My understanding is that the vast majority of Australian's who went to India, were doing so for family / humanitarian reasons and not for selfish ones. And regardless of their reasons - the rights of citizenship are innate - you do not require a reason to travel as a lawful citizen.

In fact, the idea that an Australian government is not rushing to help Australian citizens stuck in such a dangerous situation in India is mind boggling. The Australian government exists to help Australians when they are in trouble overseas - so why not in this case?

A government does not have the right to require that you have a particular reason for travel, whilst stopping you from travelling if you offer a reason that they don't like.

America was suffering from very high infection rates up until February this year, the UK was in the same situation.

Why was travel for Australian citizens rom America and England never banned?

Regardless of any reasons, government has no right to stop citizens from travelling internationally and also has no right to stop a citizen from entering the country.
