based on the Arctic melt cycle the 74 year cycle means you can go back in time to predict the future .

...so if I could put on my predictors hat...
Adelaide 2018 ( next years ) winter which is 74 years after 1944 is likely to be drier than average again.
    160 Autumn Winter Spring Summer
    154th 42.0 in 1870 94.1 in 1959 60.5 in 1965 11.6 in 1984/85
    155th 41.3 in 1891 87.4 in 1913 56.7 in 1888 4.0 in 1905/06
    156th 39.6 in 1967 85.3 in 1944 47.3 in 1938
    157th 36.2 in 1959 61.5 in 1914 44.6 in 1982

    For the record..
1938 total above was 47.3 was amongst the driest and 74 years later 2012 Adelaide (Kent Town) where 59.4 mm was recorded throughout spring.. amongst the driest on record too. Not an exact science as the Kent Town rain gauge has moved since from West Terrace where these recordings were made... but the comparisons do more so line up.

( Just note this table only goes to 1998 and has not been updated. )

research your local rainfall history and see how it matches up.
