Thanks for that BB. Very interesting.

It's great to have clarification that the standard power generating system will be a closed loop system. The prospect of that caught my eye a while ago but CNM have never really commented on it - i think they dont want to complicate their "story". It's fantastic - it means, i presume, that no new water will be added to the sytem and that the water in the system will just continue to circulate through it, with the CETO III units drawing and pressurising the water that has already been through the loop. This will no doubt mean there is no (or exceptionally little) risk that any foreign materials will interupt the system. Sensational. It operates in it's own little world with comletely "clean" water, powered by waves.

As for direct desalination, the commercial operation of that has always been years away and CNM's focus for the medium term has been on the power generation. The reason is that, at a commercial scale desal plant, the water goes through several filters (such as big sand and anthracite filters) at low pressure, before being bumped up to high pressure to go through the finer reverse osmosis filters.

But that wont affect Binningup - it was never proposed to be direct desalination - they've always proposed to power it by generating electricity (like the other energy providers).

Down the track it will be an extremely exciting opportunity that should rake in the bucks. i suggested a few weeks ago that the direct desalination development aspect could be something that the new "desalination institute" in WA could co-fund with CNM. Hope so.
