What about the Tulip Mania in 1636-1637 I'm pretty sure it is similar from a regional stand point from what you have explained about Oregon. Have a look at the Tulip Mania Maybe there is some type of warning in the story, maybe there is some sign of good things to come Let us know what you think!!
