    World Congress of Young Farmers

    23 March 2007

National Farmers' Federation participation in the
International Federation of Agricultural Producers' World Congress of Young Farmers

The International Federation of Agricultural Producers (IFAP) is holding its 2nd World Congress of Young Farmers in Palermo, Argentina, over 26-28 July 2007.

As a member of IFAP, the National Farmers' Federation (NFF) is coordinating an Australian delegation of five-to-10 representatives from rural farming organisations to attend the Congress.

Given the varied nature of the program, the NFF is seeking to assemble an Australian delegation that reflects diverse commodity interests and harnesses individuals with a broad range of skills and experience.

    Study Tour

The NFF also proposes that a complementary Study Tour – developed in consultation with the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade – be undertaken in conjunction with the Congress.

The aim is to spend an additional two days in Argentina and Brazil, respectively, to build on the Congress outcomes and foster better understanding of the agricultural sectors within these countries, particularly with respect to issues of competition, trade and local production techniques.

    Apply for the Australian Delegation

Prospective delegates must be recommended to the NFF in the nomination section of the Application Pack (attached below), which includes documents to be completed by the candidate and nominator. Your nomination must come from an individual within a NFF member organisation, a government department, an employer referee or a research group.

The aim of the application process is to ensure that delegates are:

    * representative of a broad range of young farmers across multiple commodity sectors and geographic locations,
    * professional and suitable representatives of Australian agriculture, and
    * willing and able to share the benefit of their experience with others.

Applications will be reviewed and selected by the NFF's Farm Business and Economic Committee. Applications close Monday 14 May 2007.
